Certified vegetarian by every component
How the list is computed
Each ingredient statement Taco Bell publishes tags its components certified vegan, certified vegetarian or neither. An item is on this page only when every component carries the tag certified vegetarian or certified vegan. 29 items pass. The standard is the American Vegetarian Association’s, in the guide’s words: “Items designated as vegetarian on our menu are lacto-ovo, allowing the consumption of dairy and eggs but does not include any animal byproducts.” “Please note that in some restaurants we may use the same frying oil to prepare menu items that could contain meat.”
The AVA mark against the statement
13 items carry the AVA mark on the ordering menu but a component the statement does not tag, so they are left out here: Reduced-Fat Sour Cream (), Creamy Jalapeño Sauce (), Nacho Cheese Sauce (), Red Sauce (), Mexican Pizza Sauce (), Guacamole (), Chipotle Sauce () and Spicy Ranch ().

Ordering it that way
The certification is for the item as published. A swap at the counter, such as beans for beef, is a different build the records do not carry; the how to order guide walks through the swaps the ordering menu offers.

Questions
What is vegetarian at Taco Bell?
29 items pass with every component tagged: Avocado Verde Salsa Sauce Packet, Diablo Sauce Packet, Fire Sauce Packet, Hot Sauce Packet, Mild Sauce Packet, Bean Burrito, Chips and Nacho Cheese Sauce and Cinnamon Twists.
Is the certification the brand’s?
Yes: the tags are in Taco Bell’s own ingredient statements, and the AVA mark on the ordering menu is the brand’s. This site only reads them.
Why is an AVA marked item missing?
Because a component in its statement carries no tag; 13 such items are named above with the component.
Does shared fryer oil matter?
The brand says so itself: “Please note that in some restaurants we may use the same frying oil to prepare menu items that could contain meat.”
