What the list is

Every listed item Taco Bell’s allergen tool marks free of gluten: 50 items, 12 of them food. The label warns of gluten on 54 items, and 47 items carry no statement at all and are left out rather than assumed clean. The tool’s caution applies to every row: “While a particular ingredient may not contain one of these allergens, our products may be prepared on the same equipment and in the same kitchen area as those that do.”

The brand’s own position

This page is titled the way the brand talks about it: items made without gluten containing ingredients, never gluten free. The help center’s wording: “Taco Bell does not claim any menu items as gluten-free. Some items are made without gluten-containing ingredients, but they are prepared in shared kitchen areas (including common fryer oil), which poses a risk of gluten exposure. Taco Bell does not recommend its products for customers with celiac disease.”
