The brand’s answer
“Currently, only select Taco Bell locations in Arizona, California, and Michigan accept EBT. Taco Bell Cantina locations do not accept EBT at this time. Check back for updates as we expand into more eligible states and markets.”
Three states, some restaurants, and never a Cantina: that is the whole of what Taco Bell publishes on EBT. The payment page adds the channel: “You can pay for your order with: Debit or credit cards; Taco Bell Gift Cards/eGift Cards; Digital wallets; Electronic Benefits Transfer (EBT). EBT only accepted as in-restaurant payment at participating California locations.”
Why only some states
EBT at a restaurant runs through a state’s Restaurant Meals Program, which the USDA describes on its own page (linked below); a state opts in and a restaurant enrolls. The brand’s own explanation of the card: “EBT (Electronic Benefit Transfer) is a card-based system that allows recipients of government assistance programs, such as SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program) and TANF (Temporary Assistance for Needy Families), to access their benefits using a debit-style card.”
At the kiosk
“Currently, kiosks do not support PIN entry for EBT transactions. You will need to place your order at the front counter instead.”

Whether a particular restaurant in Arizona, California or Michigan takes EBT is not on its menu page and was not read; the brand says to check back as it expands.
